Diaspora- Israel Arevut Proposal
… Diaspora Jews could no longer hide behind their non-Israeli passports. The new motto was “the Jews are Israel, and Israel the Jews.”…
….The time has come for the Jewish people (Israel and Diaspora) to address the issue of sinat hinam (baseless hatred) among Jews and its antidote, arevut (mutual responsibility)…..
The proposal to build arevut on a global scale is distinct and independent from Jewish unity that depends on external events generally initiated by enemies of Jews, as has occurred from time to time throughout Jewish history….
….Externally based unity is temporary. The current proposal begins to build solidarity from within by eradicating baseless hatred from each Jew’s heart and eventually arrives at a moral society…..
. …Jewish unity is an inner “title” to the land that cannot be externally challenged…..
….Global hatred would have no power to create self-doubt among Jews who are secure and aware of the hatred trap. These individuals already know what devastation hatred can wreak. They also know that hatred lasts and spreads easily. They will not respond to the non-Jewish world simply by hating them back, because they subscribe to the sage Hillel’s “golden rule,” articulated two thousand years ago: “That which is hateful to you, do not do to others.” Jews will understand that acceptance and respect by other nations will eventually come when the latter will see that the Jews have used their freedom and sovereignty to become moral individuals. At that point, antisemitic voices that accuse Israel of being a terrorist or outlaw state will have no echo and will be silenced.
With a renewed dedication of arevut, each Jew commits to a different “never again” formula, one to “never again” subject other Jews to hatred. This can become a personal remembrance of the Holocaust.
